Personal Story
In 2013, at the age of 23, I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer; I wasn't sure if my life was over. Oddly, I found a strange peace come over me. It was like my life was an interesting book that reached the last page. All of the struggling and striving that I had been used to seemed less relevant. It felt like the experience of beating the main story of a video game and having the time to just wander around without the pressure of saving the world.
The feeling has gradually faded over the years but my curiosity about it has not. I am a visual artist and musician, so naturally I wanted to delve into this feeling more deeply. I started my investigation by pursuing an MFA at Montana State University focusing on Installation Art that examined transitions between moments. I've continued to research the aforementioned feeling for the past nine years. Mist Monkey: wanderer is my latest exploration of this "Space between stories".
More about the Designer:
Hi, I am Xander Clinthorne. I made this game! I did the animation, coding, game design, music, and art (except the cover art and title art, credit goes to Kimberlie Clinthorne-Wong). It has kept me pretty busy and I'm excited to share it with you.
I've taught Design at Montana State University and Ceramics at the University of Hawaii. I've been making music for over a decade and my music was used on an NPR podcast. I currently teach Ceramics at Eastern Michigan University and lives in Chelsea, Michigan with his wife and child. We enjoy walking in the woods and making things.
